Major projects for 2026/2027

We plan to start and continue several major projects in the 2026/2027 financial year.

Projects in central Auckland and the Hauraki Gulf islands

Olympic pools

We plan to upgrade and strengthen the Olympic Pools and Fitness Centre in Newmarket.

Leys Institute

We will continue work to strengthen the Leys Institute buildings to protect their heritage and upgrade their facilities. This involves work to restore and modernise the buildings including the library and the community centre. We aim to reopen the buildings by 2028.

City Centre Programme

We plan to work towards the goals set in the City Centre Masterplan. This will help create a vibrant, accessible and inclusive city centre that contributes significantly to the Auckland region.

Projects in north Auckland

Water treatment plant

We will continue to upgrade the water treatment plant in Wellsford to meet the needs of the growing region.

East Coast Bays Community Centre

We plan to upgrade the East Coast Bays Community Centre in Browns Bay, including:

  • safety improvements
  • a new main entrance with a central reception.

Rosedale bus station

We plan to continue works to:

Te Kori Scott Park

We plan to continue work to develop a sustainable sports park at Te Kori Scott Point in Hobsonville.

Projects in west Auckland

Te Whau Pathway

We plan to continue work on Te Whau Pathway. This includes designing and building the boardwalks, bridges and concrete paths between:

  • Roberts Field and State Highway 16, Northwestern motorway
  • Wingate Street and Rata Street.

West Wave Pool and Leisure Centre

We plan to start work on Phase 2 of the upgrades to West Wave Pool and Leisure Centre in Henderson. This includes replacing the:

  • roof and cladding
  • water heater and gas boiler
  • dive pool lining and pool hall filtration system.

Te Hono / Avondale Community Centre

We will continue work to replace the existing Avondale Community Centre and build a combined library and community centre hub.

Projects in east Auckland

Eastern Busway

We will continue work on the new Eastern Busway between Pakuranga and Botany and upgrade the flyover intersection to improve traffic flows on Pakuranga Road.

Colin Maiden Park

We plan to develop sports fields and infrastructure at Colin Maiden Park in St Johns. This includes:

  • a full upgrade of the main oval
  • a high-performance, all-weather grass training facility
  • infrastructure to host domestic cricket matches.

David Lange Park

We plan to start work on Phase 2 upgrades to David Lange Park in Māngere to transform it into a 'destination' playground. This includes a new 'youth zone' for teenagers.

Projects in south Auckland

Te Matariki Clendon Community Centre

We plan to upgrade the library and community centre at Te Matariki Clendon.

Otaawhati / Ray Small Park

We plan to upgrade the playground and park amenities at Otaawhati / Ray Small Park in Pahurehure. This includes upgrades to:

  • walking and cycling paths
  • benches and picnic tables
  • toilets.

Neighbourhood parks in Franklin

We plan to develop neighbourhood parks in:

Level crossings

We will continue to remove and improve pedestrian rail crossings at some rail stations, including in Takanini.

Regionwide

City Rail Link (CRL)

The CRL will open in 2026. This will transform Auckland’s public transport and bring economic and environmental benefits to Auckland.

Central Interceptor

Watercare will continue building the Central Interceptor wastewater tunnel to reduce wastewater overflows into central Auckland's waterways.

Sports field capacity development programme

We will continue to develop, upgrade and renew sports fields to provide more sports facilities in Auckland.

Urban regeneration

We plan to develop town centres and other infrastructure to improve neighbourhoods across Auckland.

Public transport

The 10-year Auckland Network Optimisation programme will continue work to upgrade more road intersections and busy travel routes to improve our transport network. This includes using new technology like:

  • the 'Bus Booster' to give buses priority at traffic lights
  • 'dynamic' streets that change how traffic lanes are used at different times based on demand.

New land

We plan to buy land for parks and open spaces to help improve quality of life for Aucklanders, as well as make better use of the parks we already have.
