We also received feedback on our plan at our two Have Your Say hearing-style event on July 16th and August 6th. These provided valuable insights from individuals and groups across our area.

Adopting the Upper Harbour Local Board Plan 2020-2023

The final Upper Harbour Local Board Plan 2020-2023 was adopted at our October 15th business meeting. The agenda, minutes, and text for the plan are on akhaveyoursay. The final plan, including formatting and photographs, will be uploaded to the Upper Harbour Local Board page on the Auckland Council website early next year.

    The five plan outcomes are:

    1. Empowered, connected and resilient Upper Harbour communities
    2. An efficient and accessible travel network
    3. Healthy and active communities
    4. Our unique natural environment is protected and enhanced
    5. A resilient local economy

    What’s next: Auckland Council’s 10-year budget

As well as helping us develop our local board plan for the next three years, and the work programmes to deliver on it, your feedback also helps us to advocate to the Governing Body on issues facing Upper Harbour.

You’re welcome to register to have your say on the 10-year budget (Long Term Plan), where we’ll be advocating on behalf of Upper Harbour for:

    • Prioritisation of investment for open space development in areas where there is a known need and gap in the network, such as:
      1. Scott Point Sustainable Sports Park
      2. a sub-regional indoor court facility in the Upper Harbour Local Board area.
    • A long term solution for a library
    • Acquisition of Bomb Point, Hobsonville
    • Adequate levels of renewals funding to ensure assets are well maintained

You can help support our advocacy items by having your say on the 10-year budget (Long Term Plan) from 22 February to 22 March next year.

    Nga mihi,
    Margaret Miles, Chair

Thank you to everyone who shared ideas, insights and gave feedback on what the Upper Harbour Local Board should include in their next three-year plan. It has been great to hear from you and see your creative ideas and passion for your communities and neighbourhoods.

    Who we heard from

We held a Have Your Say event where the Board heard from local organisations from across Upper Harbour. We held meetings with key stakeholders representing youth, ethnic minorities, people with disabilities, seniors, as well as mangers of our community houses. We distributed postcards of our Local Board Plan outcomes and had people return them to us with their feedback. We a great deal of engagement on the AK Have Your Say page, where people were able to contribute ideas and discuss them with one another. In total we received over 140 contributions from around 75 people.

    What you said

These are some of the key themes we heard from all the feedback received:

    • Developing recreational facilities at Scott Point
    • Improving pedestrian and cycle infrastructure across Upper Harbour
    • Supporting a recycling centre in Upper Harbour

    What happens next?

All 21 of Auckland’s Local Boards are developing their new 2020 Local Board Plans based on what we heard and other inputs such as the Auckland Plan, Long Term Plan, and Annual Budget.

Given the extraordinary circumstances we now face, you can expect to see some localised responses to Covid-19 recovery, and some things may need to be put on hold.

The next phase of this consultation will be in July when we come back to you with an opportunity to have your say on the draft Upper Harbour Local Board Plan.

We will be back in touch when phase two opens.
