We have proposed the following coastal adaptation strategies for Aotea Great Barrier and the Hauraki Gulf Islands for the short (0 - 20 years), medium (20 - 60 years) and long term (60 – 100 years).

The Aotea Great Barrier and the Hauraki Gulf Islands Shoreline Adaptation Plan area extends from Aotea Great Barrier Island to Motukorea (Browns Island), across five 'units':

  1. Aotea Great Barrier (North)
  2. Aotea Great Barrier (South)
  3. Kawau Island to Tiritiri Matangi
  4. Central island (Rangitoto, Motutapu, Rakino, Motuihe / Te Motu-a-Ihenga)
  5. South East Islands (Ponui / Chamberlins Island, Pakihi, Rotoroa, Pakatoa, Karamuramu, Tarahiki / Shag Islands)
