Help us plan for the future of our shoreline

We are preparing shoreline adaptation plans (SAPs) across the region.

The plans will be prepared in partnership with:

  • local communities
  • mana whenua.

The plans will:

  • look at how we can adapt Auckland Council-owned land and assets to respond to coastal hazards and climate change over the next 100 years
  • promote the preservation and restoration of the coastal environment for future generations.

What we want your feedback on

We want to know:

  • how you use the coastlines around Waiheke Island and/or the Aotea Great Barrier and the Hauraki Gulf Islands.
  • what you value about the coastlines around Waiheke Island and/or the Aotea Great Barrier and the Hauraki Gulf Islands.
  • what you think of the proposed draft coastal adaptation strategies for the Waiheke Island coastline and/or the Aotea Great Barrier and the Hauraki Gulf Islands coastlines.

This will help us to:

  • identify areas of importance to the community
  • understand community values and connections to the coast
  • make suitable plans to help manage the changing shorelines.
