Gerard Martinabout 2 years agoPrioritise completion of Community Safety projects within the current school year (2020)
Among local projects noted for funding from OLB's Community Safety fund in 2019 are two projects that focus on improving safety for walking school buses in Meadowbank. These include a project at the Temple St and Lucia Glade intersection to provide a walking channel for children and their parents and those walking in the Millipede Walking School Bus to Mt Carmel and Meadowbank primary schools, separate from road traffic entering and exiting Lucia Glade. The second project assists in making it safer for children and parents to cross Grand Drive at the McFarland St intersection, to join up with the Pukeko Express Bus. I ask, for the sake of the safety of our children and for the enhancement of local walking infrastructure, that both of these projects are prioritised for completion in the 2020 school year.

The Eastern Suburbs clubroom and changing facilities are second rate. This could be turned into a multi sports facility with a proper cafe and changing facilities that aren’t third world. The flood lighting should enable games to be played in the evenings to get better use out of the grounds.

I second this: Orakei has a number of off-leash dog exercise areas. Most however, are small, uninviting, and totally inadequate for med-large breeds to obtain a satisfactory level of exercise. In St Johns there are 2 such areas that are never used and are quite frankly a waste of space. In contrast there is the wonderful Waiatarua Reserve. This park is used and loved by dog people from all over Auckland. Perversely there is currently a plan that looks at REDUCING the off leash area of this paradise for dogs. The Board should abandon this deeply unpopular proposal and move towards Waiatarua Reserve being formally designated a Dog Park. There are a wealth of alternatives for those who do not wish to be around dogs in the OLB area. Leave Waiatarua alone please.

Areas such as these are few and far between for us dog owners, we are relatively new to the area but have been using this reserve daily!

Quiet pollution free transport must be the future.
