Love local, get vocal and help shape your Local Board Plan 2020
The Māngere-Ōtāhuhu Local Board has developed a three-year plan outlining the key initiatives we want to focus on to help our communities thrive and support the recovery from the impacts of COVID-19. Now we need your help to check if we’ve got it right.
Our plan has six key outcomes:
- A confident and sustainable local economy (page 11 of plan)
- We are building well connected, engaged and active communities (page 14)
- Protecting our environment and heritage for future generations (page 19)
- Celebrating our unique Tangata Whenua and Pasifika identities (page 22)
- Our children and young people grow and succeed (page 25)
- We thrive and belong in safe, healthy communities (page 28)
Have a look at the plan for more details of what we will do to deliver on these outcomes and take the survey to tell us what's most important and what's missing.
Our 2020 Local Board Plan proposals are open for feedback until Thursday 13 August.
So love local and get vocal about your community by having your say. We'd love to hear from you.

LoveMBabout 3 years agoUpgrade playgrounds
We have lived in Mangere Bridge for 6 years and there have been NO improvements to the playgrounds which have been disappointing. We travel 20 to 30 mins to great playgrounds such as takapuna and madills farm. Madills mostly because its fully fenced for our special needs children. Please put some resource into getting Mangere Bridge some upgraded playgrounds. There are one of 3 that could be upgraded. The library is a good location because it promotes the use of the local shops and the library. The skate park up the maunga as there is plently of room or kiwi esplanade as its a beautiful spot. I know mangere is getting a big revamp playground which is great but MB could do with some love. Thank you for your time and considering our beautiful tamariki who would get so much joy out of a new playground really close to home.
0 comment3Volunteering Aucklandalmost 3 years agoVolunteering in a new "normal" needs support
COVID-19 has changed the volunteering landscape. The likely scenario for NGOs reliant on volunteers will be a short fall of people unable to volunteer as in pre-COVID days. With seniors [over 65yrs] being the back bone of many of our volunteer activities in the community now unable [unwilling through health fears?] to undertake their usual roles, this will leave a big gap in the ability of NGOs to deliver services at pre-COVID levels. An increasing number of people will also be subsisting on a much reduced income will be accessing community services in larger numbers and the community groups stepping up to support them will need additional people to support the delivery of those needs – these are generally volunteers. The increasing numbers of unemployed people will also be looking to contribute, retrain and wanting to ensure their own good mental health will need support in sourcing community voluntary activities that will best meet their needs. We need to support our community organisations to relook at their volunteer involving programmes and practices, how they recruit, support, identify and allocate voluntary tasks, ensuring the health and wellbeing of both the recipients and the volunteers. Volunteering Auckland is well placed to support the volunteering needs of both the person looking to contribute and those community groups needing support in their volunteer engagement processes and practices. Our database can also track referrals to needs by suburb and by local board. We are able to operate regionally and virtually. Volunteering will increasingly become a way to ensure a resilient community.

My family and I have been using our great local pool for 18 years but it hasn't had an upgrade to the changing rooms in all that time. It is stained, rusty, parts in disrepair, and can't be cleaned properly anymore. Please please upgrade or at least deep-clean and resurface the changing rooms so that we can all use them and be proud to treat them well. Thank you
0 comment2Stephen1about 3 years agoStop pouring treated wastewater into the Manukau Harbour.
Too long we have been polluting the Manukau Harbour with nutrient rich fresh water and partially treated wastewater during bypass events. We need to follow examples set overseas by piping this waste deep out to sea. A 2km offshore pipe is needed so wastewater can stop polluting the Manukau.
