Love local, get vocal and help shape your Local Board Plan 2020

The Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board has created a three-year plan outlining the key initiatives we want to focus on to help our communities thrive and support the recovery from the impacts of COVID-19. Now we need your help to check if we’ve got it right.

Our plan has six key outcomes:

  1. Transform Manukau (page 11 of plan)
  2. Prosperous local economy (page 15)
  3. A thriving, inclusive and safe community (page 18)
  4. Parks and facilities that meet our people’s needs (page 22)
  5. Sustainable, healthy natural environment (page 25)
  6. Connected area and easy to get around (page 29)

Have a look at the plan for more details of what we will do to deliver on these outcomes and take the survey to tell us what's most important and what's missing.

Our 2020 Local Board Plan proposals are open for feedback until Thursday 13 August.

So love local and get vocal about your community by having your say. We'd love to hear from you.

Thank you to everyone who shared ideas, insights and gave feedback on what the Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board should include in their next three-year plan. It has been great to hear from you and see your creative ideas and passion for your communities and neighbourhoods.

    Who we heard from

We held four fono in partnership with Bluespur Consulting – who hosted these community fono’s with us and held one to one conversations with the faith based groups in the local area where we heard from a cross section of the community from young people to seniors. We heard many of your views face to face at the Diversity Festival, Papatoetoe Network meeting, Local Board movies in the park and local board Diversity Forum. We heard from residents through the Auckland People’s Panel as well as our online ideas hub. In addition to that we held a Southern Boards Mana Whenua hui held at Ngati Otara Marae.

In total we received over 600 contributions from around 307people.

    What you said

These are some of the key themes we heard from all the feedback received:

    • Social, and Health Wellbeing
    • Economic development
    • Arts, Culture and Heritage
    • Parks and Recreation
    • Sustainable Environment
    • Improved Engagement opportunities

    What happens next?

All 21 of Auckland’s Local Boards are developing their new 2020 Local Board Plans based on what we heard and other inputs such as the Auckland Plan, Long Term Plan, and Annual Budget. Given the extraordinary circumstances we now face, you can expect to see some localised responses to Covid-19 recovery, and some things may need to be put on hold.

The next phase of this consultation will be in July when we come back to you with an opportunity to have your say on the draft Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board. We will be back in touch when phase two opens.
