Well-managed local government
What we are planning for local government in the Annual Plan 2026/2027.

In the 2026/2027 financial year, we plan to:
- support the Auckland Future Fund Trustee Limited board to achieve long-term average annual returns (profits from investments) of 7.24 per cent, with:
- 5.24 per cent paid to the council each year
- the rest reinvested to grow the fund over time
- invest $16 million for:
- the ongoing Marae Infrastructure Programme to help provide safe, healthy and warm marae
- grants to support Māori participation in Auckland Council decisions
- work towards Auckland Council’s savings and efficiency targets, aiming to save an additional $106 million by 2026/2027. This is on top of the $90 million annual savings already achieved from our Long-term Plan 2024-2034 (LTP)
- continue to reduce duplicated resources among council organisations like Watercare and Auckland Transport. This can include combining IT systems and data management
- make progress towards achieving our asset recycling target of $300 million set in the LTP. This means selling or leasing some of our lesser-used assets like land and buildings to help pay for new ones.
