john80over 4 years agoRun a deliberative hui on climate change and how our community response should be incorporated into the local plan.
20 randomly selected people spend a day being briefed, asking questions, and then discussing what the WRLB and our community should to do to reduce our carbon emissions and to prepare ourselves for the impacts of climate change. If it looks helpful, do it again.

We want to see Council put ferries on the Manukau Harbour, and having a wharf at Whatipu would open up a great destination. We need people to see the Manukau as a wonderful tourist and recreational resource, and a wharf at Whitipu would greatly enhance this idea. The road to Whatipu is arduously long and not the best to drive, so giving an alternative would be wonderful.
0 comment2Stephen1over 4 years agoCreate a boardwalk across the Whatipu salt marshes
The salt marshes at Whatipu are a fantastic place for a boardwalk, which could go from the end of the lack along from Gibbons Track and cross the marshes in a meandering way to the beach. This would be a fantastic nature trail and would extend the Gibbon Track into a loop track back via the beach. Having crossed the marshes without a boardwalk and forced my way through the reads and then the cutty grass, I can certainly vouch for the need for such a track. The interior of the marsh is well worth visiting, but for most the thought of bushwhacking your way across is unappealing. Open this environment up, as we have lost tracks in the bush due to Kauri die back, and making such a track available would be a great alternative.

The Manukau Harbour is suffering, and has been suffering for too long. Work with the other local boards that surround the Manukau Harbour and use your collective voice to get change. We want the waters cleaned up, which means stopping the continuous dumping of treated wastewater into the harbour. A deep sea pipeline needs to be investigated. Make your collective voices heard and get the focus brought to the Manukau.
