Key feedback themes

Most feedback supported the draft plan and the need for urgent climate action.

People said they want the plan to focus on actions that:

  • reflect the needs of both rural and urban areas
  • improve public transport
  • provide better walking and cycling options
  • provide funding and incentives to support community climate action
  • help communities:
    • adapt to climate change
    • reduce known climate risks
  • support local food production
  • protect the natural environment
  • support a transition to renewable energy.

What happened next

The Waitākere Ranges Local Board updated the draft climate action plan in March 2025 based on:

  • community feedback
  • feedback from the local board.

The local board adopted the final Waitākere Ranges Climate Action Plan [pdf 13MB] on 28 August 2025.
