Text: Here’s some of what we’re planning.

Text: Tō Tātou Hapori – Our Community. We want to enable our community to lead your own initiatives and access council services wherever you live.

Text: Ō Tātou Tāngata – Our People. We want to help young people into jobs, share decision-making with mana whenua, work with people to commemorate our history, deliver age-friendly activities.

Text: Tō Tātou Taiao – Our Environment. We want to restore the land, improve water quality and tree cover, develop a local response to climate change, get more public using active and public transport.

Text: To address climate change, we’re developing a paths programme. What should come first?

Text: Should it be safety improvements, paths to schools and public transport, or commuting and recreational paths?

Text: Tā Tātou Ōhanga – Our Economy. We’re funding a role that build local business and jobs. We want to make the most of growth, support our producers to promote Franklin as the nation’s food bowl, and attract more visitors.

Text: Ō Tātou Wāhi – Our Places. We want fit for purpose public places that we can afford.

Text: Many of our buildings are old, under-used, and need investment to make them safe and inviting.

Text: We also own buildings we lease to community groups, yet we fund the maintenance; those groups provide services you value.

Text: We have a $30 million shortfall in budget over the next 10 years. We can’t afford to maintain or upgrade all the buildings and facilities we own.

Text: We need to change how we deliver our services, so you can still use them without going to a set place.

Text: Our communities are different, some have facilities (library, pool, recreation centre), others don’t. At the moment, no council facilities = no services.

Text: We must make decisions....like selling some facilities to fund others, having groups maintain them, or changing how we do things to deliver services without buildings.

Text: We wont be making quick decisions. We need to understand which facilities you value most, which need improvements, and which could be sold.

Text: What could we get rid of to fund something better? Which facilities need improving, and what’s needed? Do you have suggestions for facilities other groups could take over?
