Pāhurehure Inlet

For Pāhurehure inlet, we received:

  • 57 comments on the interactive digital Social Pinpoint map
  • 68 surveys pieces of feedback via Social Pinpoint and the AK Have Your Say website
  • feedback from meetings and discussions with key residents and ratepayer groups
  • site-specific information and recommendations shared by groups with interests in the Wattle Downs and Weymouth areas.

The main feedback themes for Pāhurehure Inlet included:

  • the importance of maintaining safe access to coastal areas and the harbour
  • the value of walking, dog walking, running and cycling along the coastal areas
  • the value of seating and picnic areas
  • the value of the rich cultural landscape
  • the desire to preserve coastal habitats and biodiversity
  • concerns about severe weather damage to coastal areas.

Manukau Harbour North

For Manukau Harbour North we received:

  • 82 comments on the interactive digital Social Pinpoint map
  • 93 pieces of feedback via Social Pinpoint and the AK Have Your Say website
  • feedback from residents and ratepayer groups and engagement with specific community groups.

The main feedback themes for Manukau Harbour North included:

  • the value of the natural environment like bush trails and beaches
  • promoting active lifestyles with walking, dog walking and cycling areas, and water-based sports and family bonding activities
  • improving accessibility and safe access to and along the coastline
  • safety concerns around damage to assets and public facilities from coastal hazards and storm events
  • the importance of preserving natural coastal features and coastal ecosystems
  • concern around stormwater runoff or overflow, and water quality
  • improving coastal experiences with more boat ramps and carparks.

Manukau Harbour East

For Manukau Harbour East we received:

The main feedback themes for Manukau Harbour East included:

  • the value of walking, cycling, water-based sports and family activities in coastal areas
  • the value of infrastructure like boat ramps and the Watercare coastal walkway
  • the value of community connections and engagement in coastal areas
  • the desire to manage and maintain coastal assets for present and future generations
  • urgent concern to address climate change-related challenges and natural hazards like floods and storms
  • concerns about water quality and protecting native species in coastal areas.

In-person events

We received a lot of feedback at the in-person events we held at locations across the three SAP areas.

We held events at:

  • Ecomatters Environmental Trust, New Lynn
  • Titirangi Beach Hall, Titirangi
  • Wesley Market, Mt Roskill
  • Aotea (Onehunga) Sea Scouts, Onehunga waterfront
  • Māngere Boating Club, Kiwi Esplanade
  • Māngere Markets, Mangere
  • Weymouth Yacht Club, Weymouth
  • Sir Edmund Hillary Library and council services, Papakura.

What happens next

We are finalising the plans for these areas to present to the relevant local boards in May 2024. We will then present them to the Governing Body for approval.
