Stephen1over 3 years agoTarget illegal dumping
Onehunga has seen an upsurge in illegal dumping. Make this a priority area for Auckland Council. Give people options on where they can dump their rubbish legally, and go the offenders, make examples of them on social media, and show the public illegal dumping is unacceptable.

It is almost impossible to turn right to Ellerslie-Panmure Highway into Lunn Ave or get to Penrose Road from Barrack Road during rush hour. Barrack Road is narrow residential area but extremely high traffic.
0 comment1Stephen1over 3 years agoLarge trees for Taumanu Reserve
How about getting some large native trees planted at Taumanu Reserve. Most of the plantings are flax, grass and small shrubs. We need some large trees that attract birds. Kowhai, Pururi, Pohutukawa, etc There is on area on the bank near the footbridge that would be excellent planted out to become a small native forest rather than just unused grass.
1 comment6Stephen1over 3 years agoDredge Onehunga Lagoon
The Onehunga Lagoon was created in the 1970's when the foreshore of Onehunga was cutoff by the development of State Highway 20. Since then the Lagoon has never been dredged and has slowly filled with mud. At low tide the Lagoon is unusable as only mud remains. The lagoon needs dredging so that even when the tide is let out that a usable depth of water remains. A swimming platform should be added to the middle of the lagoon, like the one at Judges Bay, Parnell. An outside cold-water shower should be added outside the toilet block, like the shower we see at Cheltenham Beach, Devonport, which also has a swimming platform. These facilities should not just exist on Auckland's East Coast. The mud should be dredged right up to the beaches and walls of the lagoon and beaches re-sanded. There is a lot of high density housing going in at the end of Princes Street and surrounds, and improvements such as this to Onehunga Lagoon will make this an even greater asset to Onehunga than it is now.
