We received a total of 2180 formal survey submissions about driving on Muriwai Beach.
This included 2052 online survey submissions and 129 hardcopy survey submissions.
People submitted their hardcopy submissions at three public meetings or scanned them and emailed them to the muriwaibeach@aucklandcouncil.govt.nz address.
Informal feedback was also sent to this address.
We also recorded feedback at the public meetings and sought further feedback at a fourth meeting held with 4WD groups.
Key feedback themes
When asked which of the three options to manage the future of vehicles on the beach they prefer – seasonal closures, controlled access, or permanent closure:
37 per cent prefer seasonal closures, restricting vehicle access to the beach at core times.
32 per cent prefer controlled access
21 per cent prefer permanent closure of all public vehicle access points.
A final report and recommendations will then be presented to the Parks, Arts, Community and Events Committee who will decide on next steps.
