Key feedback themes

Feedback shows that:

  • 57.3 percent of people visited the playground at least once a week
  • most of the trips to the playground were by car
  • more than half of visitors spend between 30 to 60 minutes at the playground every visit
  • popular playground equipment includes:
    • swings
    • rope climbing structure
    • climbing tower.

Requests for new facilities

Requests for new facilities include play equipment for:

  • sliding
  • swinging
  • balancing and climbing
  • jumping
  • nature play
  • water play
  • flying fox
  • learn-to-ride track
  • creative play.

Requests for improvements

People who have given their feedback would like to see improvements in:

  • provision for shaded areas
  • seating and picnic tables
  • water play facilities
  • accessible playground and pathways.

Changes made based on the feedback

The new playground design includes:

  • play equipment for:
    • sliding
    • swinging
    • balancing and climbing
    • jumping
    • nature play
    • creative play

  • seating and picnic tables
  • accessible playground surfaces
  • reduced rough and steep pathways.

What happens next

Howick Local Board approved the concept design for the playground on 19 September 2024.

Construction started on Monday 24 February 2025. We expect to complete it by mid-August 2025.
