Te Poari ā-Rohe o Manurewa
Manurewa Local Board
Our funding for 2026/2027
We have been allocated $7.6 million for capital investment and $28.7 million for operational spend for 2026/2027.
Capital investment
We use these funds to renew and develop assets like:
- community facilities
- parks and sports fields.
Operating spend
We use these funds to run our services like:
- community centres
- libraries and parks
- community and environmental programmes and events.
The $28.7 million for operational spend in 2026/2027 includes:
- $25.1 million for community services
- $1.1 million for environmental services
- $1.3 million for planning services
- $1.2 million for governance (how we manage our local board area).
A lot of our operating budget will pay for existing contracts to maintain community facilities and open spaces.
Extra funding for 2026/2027
The $7.6 million for operational spend includes extra funding for 2026/2027. However, a lot of this will help cover growing costs to provide our existing services. This includes increases in costs for:
- utilities like water and electricity
- maintaining community facilities like sport centres and libraries, and open spaces like parks and reserves
- staffing.
At the same time, we are making less revenue than expected from fees and charges.
Once we cover these costs, we will still have $500,000 more for operating spend in 2026/2027 compared to what we had in 2025/2026.
What we plan to deliver in 2026/2027
In 2026/2027, we plan to:
- continue to provide the local services, projects and programmes that are important to our community
- provide up to $1.5 million in funding to help develop the multi-sports pavilion at Manurewa War Memorial Park
- introduce a new multicultural programme to engage and connect different cultures
- develop a community education programme to teach people about the role of local boards and how they can get involved.
Key projects planned for 2026/2027
We also plan to:
- continue to fund extra animal management staff and run programmes that support dog safety and responsible ownership
- continue work on a new community hub at Te Pātaka Kōrero o Manurewa / Manurewa Library
- continue improving our sports fields with maintenance, lighting and ‘sand-carpeting’ (where a layer of sand is spread over a sports field to improve surface drainage, fill small holes and keep the turf level)
- continue funding the community’s Pan-Pacific Strategy
- continue to support ways to plant and retain more trees on:
- public and private land
- suburban streets
- continue to invest in:
- a trial programme to collect and properly dispose of rubbish that has been dumped illegally
- a trial programme to take action against people who dump rubbish illegally
- build a new neighbourhood park at Manga-pākau / Glenveagh Park Drive Reserve.
