Planning for the future of Auckland
We want to know what you think our priorities should be for the future of Auckland.

Auckland’s City Centre is the economic heart of our region. Overall, the city centre contributes around 20 per cent, or a fifth of Auckland’s economy.
We want to:
- make public spaces work better for people
- get more value from major investments in transport
- make sure the council helps the city centre thrive as a place to live, work, study and visit.
Plans for the future
We will have discussions in 2027 to help us plan for Auckland’s future. These include discussions about:
- our 2027–2037 long-term plan, which sets funding for regional and local plans
- regional transport plans
- water service strategies
- Auckland’s spatial plan (what we will use land for).
We will continue to invest in areas like transport, water and the environment, but we want to know what you think we should prioritise.
Key issues for the future of Auckland
To achieve what we want for Auckland, we need to address several key issues. These issues include to:
- manage challenges to productivity and growth
- invest in infrastructure to support population growth
- protect and improve our existing assets like roads, sports facilities and libraries
- improve climate resilience and protect the natural environment
- meet the diverse needs of our communities
- provide the services and activities Aucklanders need, while keeping to our budget.
These issues are discussed further in the Mayoral Proposal and key planning documents. These include the:
- Auckland Plan
- Future Development Strategy
- Māori outcomes
- Auckland Unitary Plan
- Auckland’s Climate Plan
- Long-term Plan 2024–2034.
Have your say
As we review these plans and strategies, we want to know your views. This includes your thoughts on the council’s long-term priorities for Auckland and the city centre.

As we plan for the future of Auckland, we want to know what is most important to you.
Use our 'Pick your priorities' tool to show us what you would like us to do more of over the next ten years.
Instructions
You have 10 points to show what matters most to you for the future of Auckland. This will help us decide what we should focus on.
Choose which focus areas you want us to prioritise. You can:
- give all 10 points to one focus area, or
- spread the points across several focus areas.
The more points you give to an area, the higher priority you are giving it.
