Community
What we are planning for our communities in the Annual Plan 2026/2027.

In the 2026/2027 financial year, we plan to:
- continue to support our 21 local boards. They are responsible for services that strengthen communities in their area, like libraries and sports facilities. We will advise local boards about:
- funding options
- how the investments they are considering might benefit their communities
- the levels of service they should provide to their communities
- continue to provide increased funding for the Sports and Recreation Facilities Investment Fund. This will help address the shortage of some sports facilities in Auckland
- continue to find new ways to provide local services, like sports and learning programmes. This includes using more multi-use facilities for these services. This could involve working with other service providers like sports groups and education organisations
- carry out urgent upgrades to community facilities to make sure they are safe and functional, and can meet the needs of growing communities
- improve dog management by:
- teaching dog owners about responsible dog ownership and dog rules
- increasing capacity at animal shelters so they can care for more animals
- offering more desexing programmes to help control the dog population
- make communities safer and reduce problems in public areas that affect safety, comfort or enjoyment. This involves using:
- safety and compliance wardens
- community partners like central government agencies, business associations and volunteer patrols.
