PMBalmoral11 months agoHow to continue to improve our towncentres and help make our local business hubs even better?
- Support reputable businessese in local area - More amenities : parking places for cyclists, benches.. Make them easy for customers to recognize (identify) - Brand the community - Beautification / Improvement of streets and buildings - Improve promotion of Dominion Rd, esp (promote) to tourists. Dominion Rd could become a tourist destination, a symbol of the city, a "must go in your NZ visit" - More events with multi-cultural themes. Eg. Moon Festival, Dumpling Festival, Zongzi Festival - City-wide promotion esstional to improve the Moon Festival event, with improved attraction of investments, proactive invitation of different businesses. By doing so, the business assoction should effectively perform its services.
0 comment2The Tree Entity11 months agoBring back tree protection for trees both native and exotic and plant up all of our parks and green spaces with as many trees as possible
Also do not cut down the trees on Mount Albert or Mount Eden or on any of the other mountains, and do not cut down the trees in Western Springs, and turn the site of 52-58 Canal Road into a park and so save the 46 native trees and the huge old macrocarpa and this beautiful space as a whole

I'd love to see Dominion Rd and Ian McInnon drive being more pedestrian friendly. At the moment walking from Dominion Rd to Upper Queen St feels like walking next to a highway. It's grey, the speed limit is higher than on most streets and the footpath is just ugly. This area could be made more beautiful with some street art, nicer footpaths, benches and even a coffee cart during peak hour. The number of cyclists increased when the cycle path was built, imagine how many more pedestrians would walk to town and back if it was safe and engaging to do so.

Survey conducted on we-chat ; From the 113 response, more than 90% of them satisfied with the community facilities (including library, playground and bus services), they also agreed that the community provides enough social, entertainment and sports activities for the people. Respondent also rated positively on the environment and heritage conservation in the community.

The current pandemic is currently hiding another crisis, water shortage. And contrary to the spread of a virus, we can prepare for and avoid water shortage before next summer. With climate change deregulating our weather, we have experienced longer period without rain. We might have water consumption warnings raised every summer, which will affect and threaten many aspects of our daily life : hygiene, consumption, sewage system. It is possible to set up water collection system throughout our neighborhood, in private gardens, in community centres, perhaps on top of current buildings. Many small and widespread water storage units would provide an alternative for locals, utilising it for their gardens and outdoor cleaning duties throughout the year. It could also be used for hygiene and consumption in during summer, when water is scarce. Public spaces and parks, if not already equipped, can benefit from collecting rainwater - dropping the associated costs with its purchase - for watering purposes. Minimising public lawn size ( very-water hungry spaces) is key to reducing our water use. That means incentivising sports that aren't taking place on a green - and getting rid of the worse one altogether : golf. It is about prioritising basic needs over entertainment. With nz$10000, we could incentivise the setup of a local water tank co-operatives, a service that provides both 1/the practical knowledge to fabricate a water tank with recycled materials and 2/ the service to have one set up at home. This would enables both people with time but little money, and people with money but little time, to get on board and plan for many wonderful summers to come.
