Help shape the future of Ōmaru

The Ōmaru Joint Management Committee is preparing a new management plan for Ōmaru (formerly Point England Reserve). This will help guide how Ōmaru is used, cared for and enjoyed in the future. The plan will outline how how people can enjoy the area while protecting and maintaining its land, natural environment and cultural values. We want to know what you think the plan should include.

Why we need a new plan

The current management plan for Point England Reserve was approved almost 30 years ago in 1997. Since then, the area and surrounding communities have changed. In addition, ownership of Ōmaru was transferred to Ngāti Pāoa under the Ngāti Pāoa Claims Settlement Act in 2025. Ōmaru is now co-managed by Ngāti Pāoa and the Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board through the Ōmaru Joint Management Committee.

The area will continue to be open for the public to access and enjoy.

Ōmaru Reserve

This reserve occupies 41 hectares and has a combination of rural (grazed) land, coastal edge along the Tāmaki Estuary and connections along the Omaru Stream.
