About the skate park
The skate park at Ngataringa Park in Devonport needs rebuilding. Specialists have advised against rebuilding it in its current location due to:
major drainage issues
contaminated soil.
We are looking for a new site to provide facilities for skate communities.
What we are proposing
After looking at options, in August 2023, we concluded that Woodall Park in Narrowneck was the best site for a replacement skate park.
This is because it:
is close to the Ngataringa skate park
has an existing playground, BMX pump track and toilet
has suitable green space available next to Wairoa Road.

We will make sure people can still use the fields and play volleyball and netball when the new skate park is built.
The large number of people using the park and its open street front provide a visible and safe environment for all users.
The surface of the skate park will create less noise than skateboarding on streets and hardwood ramps. The existing park trees will also help to reduce noise from the surrounding area.
