Windmill Park Needs Assessment & Master Plan

Consultation has concluded

Windmill Park is an important sports and recreation park in Mt Eden.

It is home to:

  • 15 netball courts used throughout the year by Auckland Netball
  • 12 tennis courts used in summer by Tennis Auckland
  • one artificial cricket-wicket used in summer by Auckland Cricket
  • a half-court basketball court, petanque terrain, barbeque and wilderness area.

In 2016 fire destroyed the grandstand building, and in 2021 one of the clubroom buildings was demolished as it was no longer safe to occupy.

What we are doing

We are undertaking a review of Windmill Park and developing a master plan to shape any future development.

The masterplan is being developed because:

  • we want to understand if the spaces left vacant by the grandstand and clubroom should be developed in some way
  • a recent study identified Windmill Park as a potential site for some covered courts
  • a range of other play and recreation opportunities have been identified, such as shelter for spectators, playground, bike play opportunities, community bike resources, outdoor fitness equipment, and there could be other ideas from the community.

As it is not possible to include everything at Windmill Park due to space and financial constraints, the needs assessment and master plan will help us understand which ideas are the most important to meet the community, users and interested groups' needs.

What we want your feedback on

We want to hear from the community, users and interested groups to understand:

  • how Windmill Park is currently used, what works well and what doesn't
  • what you would like to do at Windmill Park now and into the future
  • what you think about the different development ideas for Windmill Park.

When you can have your say

You can have your say from 8 July to 7 August 2022.
