About the Panmure Sign Project
The 15-metre-tall Panmure town sign was installed on a roundabout in the west of Panmure in 1994. In 2019, the sign was removed to make space for the Eastern Busway.
After the sign was removed, Auckland Transport transferred its ownership and $250,000 of associated funding to Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board.
The local board now has the decision-making authority on the future of the sign and how to spend the funds. However, the sign cannot be returned to its original site or be reinstalled elsewhere due to a lack of space and structural issues.
If the local board installs a new sign in a different location, they may need authority from:
- Auckland Transport
- Eke Panuku, or/and
- a private landowner.
The local board wants feedback from the Panmure community about what they should do with the original sign and how they should use the funds.
What we want your feedback on
We want to know if you think we should use the funds for:
- a new, smaller version of the original sign in a different location in Panmure
- a new sign or art piece inspired by the original sign’s iconic design
- another project to benefit the Panmure community
- something else.
We also want to know:
- what you think we should do with the old Panmure sign
- about any local stories, history or natural features that you would like us to reflect in this project.
