About the Landing
The Landing is an intensively used park located on the seaward side of Tamaki Drive in Ōkahu Bay, just 4km from the city centre. It accommodates a range of water-based sports clubs and provides infrastructure for the public (boat ramp, pontoons, trailer parking, etc) to access the Waitematā Harbour. A commercial haul-out and hardstand (boat yard) facility also provides space for boat owners to maintain and service their craft.
The site is of particular cultural significance to Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, with Ōkahu Bay being a place where historic waka arrivals have taken place over many hundreds of years and where today participation in waka ama and other water-based activities is growing.
What we are proposing
Growing demand from a range of users is putting pressure on The Landing.
We are refreshing the 2013 Landing concept plan (Pathways to the Sea) to make it more accessible and welcoming to a wider range of users.
We aim to cater for those seeking water-based recreation on the harbour, as well as those who prefer to enjoy Tāmaki Drive waterfront from the land.

What we want to achieve
Our desired outcomes include:
- building a multi-sport paddling centre as per the 2013 plan
- improved public access for both active and passive users of the site
- stronger visual and physical connectivity through the site
- developing a shared multipurpose space for gathering, events, boat set-ups and more.

We have completed the first phase of consultation with all stakeholders based at The Landing.
You can have your say as part of phase two from Tuesday 1 February to Monday 28 February.
Unfortunately, the planned on site drop in session has had to be cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions. In the lead up to this consultation, Auckland Council was approached by a private operator interested in running an electric ferry service from the southwest corner of The Landing to, and from, Kennedy Point on Waiheke Island. The service would have the capacity to carry a maximum of 35 vehicles and up to 150 passengers or cyclists.
While this proposal is in its formative stages and the full implication for The Landing is not fully understood, the board considers it has a number of attractive features that warrant further investigation.
If this proposal advances, it would require Land Owner Approval and further community input. Additionally, the proposal will need to go through a Resource Consent process.
