Help us plan for the future of our shoreline

We are preparing shoreline adaptation plans (SAPs) across the region.

The plans will be prepared in partnership with:

  • local communities
  • mana whenua.

The plans will:

  • look at how we can adapt Auckland Council-owned land and assets to respond to coastal hazards and climate change over the next 100 years
  • promote the preservation and restoration of the coastal environment for future generations.

Learn more about why and how we are developing Shoreline Adaptation Plans for the region, along with how you can provide feedback on the Weiti Estuary to Devonport and the Waitematā Harbour West Shoreline Adaptation Plan by checking out our webinar.

What we want your feedback on

We want to know:

  • how you use and what you value about the Waitematā Harbour West coastline and/or the Weiti Estuary through to Devonport Peninsula coastline
  • what you think of the draft coastal adaptation strategies proposed for the Waitematā Harbour West coastline and/or the Weiti Estuary through to Devonport Peninsula coastline.

This will help us to:

  • identify areas of importance to the community
  • understand community values and connections to the coast
  • make suitable plans to help manage risk to council land and assets and the changing shorelines.

Our draft coastal adaptation strategies for Waitematā Harbour West and Weiti Estuary to Devonport Peninsula will be available from Friday 2 August 2024.
