About the project

Parrs Park is a popular park for people in:

  • Oratia
  • Glen Eden
  • Henderson.

The park has a:

  • playground
  • walking trails
  • picnic area
  • table tennis
  • swimming pool facilities
  • sports fields
  • skate path
  • half pipe skate ramp.

The skate facilities are located in different parts of the park. They do not meet expectations for a modern, inclusive skatepark.

Due to the growing community, there is an increase in demand for recreational facilities, particularly for wheeled play users.

We want to upgrade the skatepark at Parrs Park.

We are finding options to develop a skatepark that will:

  • cater to a range of ages and abilities
  • fit well with the design of the park
  • not affect the nearby residents and park users.

What we are proposing

The upgrade aims to:

  • build a skatepark suitable for children, young people and adults
  • make sure the skatepark is easier for everyone to use and access
  • improve park safety
  • make it easy for users to access the park
  • respond to population growth and increasing park use.

Why we want your feedback

Parrs Park is a shared space with many users including:

  • local residents
  • families
  • sports clubs
  • people who enjoy the park.

We want to hear from the community early to:

  • understand how people currently use the park
  • identify opportunities and concerns related to skatepark
  • make the right decision for location and design
  • make sure the skatepark fits well with other park uses.

What we want your feedback on

We want to know:

  • if you support upgrading the skatepark
  • what you think about where the skatepark is located in the park
  • if you have any concerns about noise, safety, visibility or how it may affect other park users
  • how we can update the design to address your concerns
  • if you would like anything else included such as:
    • seating
    • shade
    • bins
    • water fountain
    • landscaping.
