Share your ideas for safer streets in West Papatoetoe

We want to work together with the community to trial people friendly spaces and safer ways to travel in West Papatoetoe.

This could include:

  • creating more fun, thriving spaces for people to spend time,
  • making it easier, more accessible, and safer to move around on bike, foot or public transport.

This project is led by the Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board, has been awarded funding through the Waka Kotahi NZ Transport Agency’s Innovating Streets Programme, and will be delivered by Auckland Transport.

The changes will be made through temporary improvements in line with Papatoetoe’s unique history and culture, to help us learn and inform longer term changes. Similar projects in Auckland can be seen on Federal Street and Sale Street in the city centre and are coming to Ponsonby Road and Onehunga.

We want to hear from the people who live, work, and play in Papatoetoe about issues and opportunities you see for making West Papatoetoe more people friendly.

What could the changes include?

Changes could include things like temporary devices to reduce speeds for vehicles, safer crossing opportunities, options to prevent traffic from using a residential road as a through road.

Our project will set out to:

  • Make Papatoetoe West a low-speed area
  • Make it safer and easier to travel on bike or foot
  • Prevent the area from being used as a rat-run
  • Incorporate residents’ ideas into how all this can be achieved

We could achieve these with:

  • temporary street furniture
  • artwork
  • planters
  • and more!

Which streets are included in this project?

With a limited budget, we will have to focus on a specific area or areas within the project zone. Help us by telling us which streets you would prioritise.

Project is bounded by Station Road, Wylie Road, Puhinui Road, Southwestern Motorway and Portage Road.
