About the Papakura Local Park Management Plan

We are developing a new local park management plan, as required under Section 41 of the Reserves Act 1977.

The plan will outline future Papakura local park:

  • management
  • use
  • protection.

How the plan will be developed

The Papakura Local Park Management Plan will be divided into two volumes.

Volume 1

This will:

  • set out the scope and purpose of the plan
  • provide the policy framework for guiding park management.

Volume 2

This will provide a more detailed look at what the plan means for individual local parks within Papakura.

Please note for clarity this will mean that all existing reserve management plans for park across Papakura, will be superseded by the Papakura Local Parks Management Plan (these are available for your reference under "Current Reserve Management Plans").

An example from the Rodney Local Parks Management Plan is available here.

Why we are doing this consultation

We are following the process set out in the Reserves Act 1977 to prepare a local park management plan.

Part of this process requires us to consult with the public twice:

  • when we are ready to begin drafting the plan, and
  • when we have a draft plan to be reviewed.

This is the first round of consultation, where we are looking for suggestions for local parks within the local board area.

The second round of consultation is likely to start in mid-2025.

What we want your feedback on

We want your feedback and suggestions about what we should consider as we draft the local park management plan.

Our aim is to make sure that the plan we draft fits:

  • what the community values in its local parks, and
  • how people would like to use and enjoy parks in the future.

For further information about the plan and this public consultation process, please refer under "Submitter Documents" - to the "Guidance for making a submission" document.

When you can have your say

You can have your say from 10 October to 11 November 2023, by the following means:

Alternatively you can visit one of your local libraries in the area and/or drop off a paper feedback form:

  • at Sir Edumund Hillary (209 Great south Road, Papakura), or

In mid 2025, we will hold a second round of public consultation, asking for feedback on the draft plan.
