Ōtara-Papatoetoe playground upgrades
Consultation has concluded
Local playgrounds for local communities
We recognise the importance of play and its contribution to the social development of children. The Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board is renewing the following playgrounds, and we want your help to plan the redevelopment of these play facilities.
What this project is about
The Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board is renewing the following playgrounds:
- Aorere Park
- Kohuora Park
- Ngāti Ōtara Park
- Pearl Baker Reserve
We would like your help to plan the redevelopment of these playgrounds.
We need to make sure that a wide range of age groups and abilities can enjoy the play spaces at these parks.
What we want to improve
Our research has identified issues in each park that we want to address.
Aorere Park Playground
To meet the needs of children aged zero to 12 years, this playground needs to have:
- accessible play for children with a range of abilities
- sliding, climbing and crawling experiences.
The following activities are missing from the playground for children aged nine to 12 year's old:
- wheeled play area and facilities for learning to ride trikes, bikes and scooters
- a sheltered gathering space.
Kohuora Park Playground
These activities need to be improved for ages zero to 12 years:
- accessible play items for children with a range of abilities
- jumping, spinning, swinging and rocking experiences
- sheltered seating areas and a gathering space.
Ngāti Ōtara Park Playground
This playground should be improved to provide for zero to 18 years. Play spaces and provisions should include:
- jumping experiences
- nature play
- all abilities experiences
- a wheeled play area with facilities for learning to ride trikes, bikes and scooters
- sheltered seating and gathering spaces.
Pearl Baker Reserve Playground
More play spaces and provisions should be available for children zero to nine years of age at this park, including:
- accessible play for children with a range of abilities
- sliding, climbing and crawling experiences.
More information can be found on our Play Network Gap Analysis Report.
