We are planning to renew three neighbourhood playgrounds in the Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board area.

These include:

  • Rangitoto Park
  • Maxwell Park
  • Motatau Park.

These playgrounds are due for renewal as the current play equipment is old and reaching the end of its life.

What we want to achieve

Our goals are to:

  • replace old and worn-out equipment
  • make the playgrounds safer and easier to use
  • create spaces that local families will enjoy.

About the playgrounds

Neighbourhood playgrounds are small local play areas designed for nearby residents.

They provide safe, fun and accessible places where tamariki (children) and whānau can spend time together.

Through this renewal programme, we want each playground to reflect the needs and ideas of the local community.

We are consulting on all three playgrounds together because they are close to each other.

What we want your feedback on

We would like to know which of the following options you think is best for the community and why.

Option 1: Renew all three playgrounds (Maxwell, Motatau and Rangitoto)

Under this option, we will renew all three playgrounds.

Option 2: Renew Rangitoto playground and upgrade Maxwell playground

Under this option, we will:

  • renew Rangitoto playground
  • use funding for Motatau playground to upgrade Maxwell playground
  • not make any changes to Motatau playground.

Option 3: Renew Rangitoto playground, upgrade Maxwell playground and close Motatau playground

Under this option we will:

  • renew Rangitoto playground
  • use funding for Motatau playground to upgrade Maxwell playground
  • close Motatau playground. The site could become open space.

We also want your feedback on:

  • what play equipment and features you would like to see
  • how these parks can better reflect your community’s needs.

Tamariki can also have their say through a fun online survey designed just for kids.
