Closing the loop: Onewherowhero / Brains Park playground upgrade
Public consultation for the Onewherowhero / Brains Park playground upgrade closed on 29 February 2024.
We received about 52 pieces of feedback through our online feedback form.
Thank you for having your say.
Main feedback themes
Feedback showed that most people:
- walk or drive to get to the park
- would like a path around the park for exercise.
Popular activities
Feedback showed the park is mostly used for:
- children's play
- jogging
- enjoying nature
- relaxing and socialising.
Requests for the new playground
Popular requests for the new playground include:
- slides
- water play and jumping activities
- hanging and flying play equipment
- music play activities
- play equipment for toddlers
- picnic tables and shaded areas.
Changes made based on the feedback
Based on the feedback, we made changes to our proposed design for the new playground.
These include:
- slides
- jumping activities
- hanging, flying and climbing play equipment
- play areas for young kids, older kids and teens.
We will use bright colors in the new playground to connect it to Kelston's history with red clay. We also plan to plant shade trees and add a seating area for families and children.
We will not include water play equipment in the new playground because it is not suitable for a park of this size. We also decided not to include music play equipment because this could be too noisy for homes next to the park.
What happens next
We included your feedback in our updated proposal and presented it to the Whau Local Board on 2 October 2024.
The local board will now consider our proposed design for the playground upgrade.
