Consultation has concluded

What we are proposing

Maungakiekie-Tāmaki Local Board have received requests from the local community to provide a fenced dog agility area within the western area of the Onehunga Bay Reserve.

We have identified a proposed site for the dog agility area which is:

  • close to a drinking fountain with a dog bowl
  • close to the concrete walkway around the lagoon
  • accessible from the main road via an existing fenced gate.

What we want your feedback on

We are seeking feedback on:

  • the proposed location in the reserve where the agility area should be located
  • the agility equipment options that are preferred by dog walkers and park users.

The proposed development does not impact the current dog walking requirements in Onehunga Bay Reserve.

Under the current rules, dogs are:

  • prohibited from the playground
  • required to be on-leash near the playground
  • allowed to be off-leash in other areas.

You can view the site of the proposed location noted as Option A on the following map.

We'd like to know:

  • your thoughts of the recommended location marked as Option A
  • whether you prefer that the dog agility area be fenced off or an open space in the Onehunga Bay Reserve
  • if you would like the dog agility area to be wood chipped (similar to a playground) or grassed.

When you can have your say

You can have your say from Tuesday 1 March to Friday 25 March 2022.

What happens next

March to May 2022 - We will analyse your feedback and present it to the local board. The local board will approve the concept plan and detailed design

June to August 2022 - We will apply for resource consent and procurement.

September to November 2022 - We will construct the new agility area.
