Project update

The Ministry for Culture and Heritage received resource consent for the proposed memorial in March 2020.

The ministry was granted archaeological authority in September 2020.

The Waitematā Local Board approved the Ministry for Culture and Heritage’s landowner approval application for the proposed memorial in Dove-Myer Robinson Park at their meeting on Tuesday 17 November.

What happens next

  • Auckland Council will be writing to Ministry for Culture and Heritage confirming this approval and setting out all the relevant consent and authority conditions that will ensure protection of the site during construction of the memorial.
  • It is anticipated the build will commence during the first half of 2021 and will take approximately six months.
