Thank you for having your say.
We received four submissions in support of the land exchange and four submissions against.
We contacted 13 iwi who were identified as being affected by the proposal.
Eight iwi did not respond. Those who responded did not voice any objection to the land exchange.
Key feedback themes
The four objections were:
Two people commented on the way the Ōwairaka area was being redeveloped and on the impacts of the redevelopment. They were concerned about the impacts on surrounding infrastructure such as supermarkets, schools and roads. These were related to the wider development of the area rather than the land exchange.
One person stated that the land exchange was not equitable.
One person did not provide any reason for their objection.
Changes made as a result of feedback
Section 15 of the Reserves Act 1977 requires us to consider the objections to any land exchange.
Objections based on the surrounding infrastructure were considered to be out of scope.
Objection based on the loss of land was considered, however, we are making a small gain of 1.7m2.
After consideration, we approved the land exchange due to improvements to amenity, safety and accessibility.
What happens next
Next steps are for the Albert-Eden Local Board to finalise design plans for the new walkways into Murray Halberg Park.
