Manukau Sports Bowl Master Plan

We are looking to upgrade the Manukau Sports Bowl and would like your feedback to ensure it serves the needs of our community.

The Manukau Sports Bowl was built in the late 1980s for the Commonwealth Games.

It has been home to a range of activities and facilities including:

  • cycling
  • greyhound racing
  • tennis
  • soccer
  • a playground
  • basketball.

It is also a popular place for community functions and events such as Polyfest.

Why we are proposing an upgrade

As the Manukau Sports Bowl is more than 30 years old, many buildings and public spaces are tired and in need of an upgrade.

We hope to deliver an accessible, inviting and inclusive destination park for everyone in the community.

We believe safety could also be improved by having more people use the park regularly.

About the draft Manukau Sports Bowl Masterplan

We have prepared a masterplan to guide the future development of our park.

This already reflects what you have been telling us via the Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board Plan and Auckland Long-term Plan consultations.

Now, we want to hear what you think about our plan too.

Improvements we hope to make

We intend for the upgrades to:

  • foster stronger community ownership and interactions with the park
  • ensure the park is safe and vibrant, while providing easy connections and being reflective of our community
  • minimise the environmental impact of development and use of the park, while improving our local environment
  • provide opportunities to meet our community's needs to learn, develop, participate and have fun
  • maximise the use of the park while proving community benefits.

What we want your feedback on

We have compiled a shortlist of recreational priorities based on past feedback, but we don’t have the space or the funds to build them all.

We want to know what you want us to include and build first.

Requested facilities include:

  • more sports courts
  • an athletics track
  • a pump track
  • a splash pad.

Or you can request something different.

A community pool has also been requested and investigations show that this will be needed in the future.

However, Manukau Sports Bowl might not be the right place for this facility. It will also cost a lot to build and take up a lot of space.

Whatever is decided, we are committed to providing continued access to existing pools and improving an aquatic facility in our area.

How you can have your say

Tell us what you want prioritised for your park upgrade.

Your feedback will be used to help us complete the final masterplan.

There are a number of ways you can provide feedback to us:

  • online
  • in person by attending the drop in day at the park 16 April 2022 from 10am-2pm.
  • download our feedback form

When you can have your say

Feedback closes at 5pm on 26 April 2022.
