Proposed changes to the Mairangi Bay Reserves Management Plan
The Mairangi Bay Reserves Management Plan amendment responds to recent coastal research, proposes options to mitigate potential hazards to the reserve.
We asked you in 2023 for feedback on relocating some facilities at the Mairangi Bay Beach Reserve. Visit Mairangi Bay Reserves Management Plan review consultation for more information.
Based on your feedback, we are now proposing:
- a draft concept plan
- changes to the policies in the existing Mairangi Bay Reserves Management Plan (MBRMP).
We want to hear your thoughts on the draft concept plan and changes to the policies in MBRMP.

What the draft concept plan includes
- Relocate the Mairangi Bay Surf Lifesaving Club building and storage to the north of the reserve.
- Shift the seawall in future years to protect the reserve's coastal edge.
- Reduce the number of car parking spaces in the reserve.
- Develop a new nature trail.

Proposed changes to the policies
We are proposing changes to the policies in the 2015 Mairangi Bay Reserves Management Plan. These changes will support the draft concept plan.
The proposed changes are to:
- strengthen mana whenua's values to protect and sustain the environment
- combine the surf club building and storage facilities into a single location
- improve access to the beach from the reserve
- move existing facilities, including the playground, away from the reserve’s coastal edge.

What happens next
There will be a hearing for anyone who wants to speak about their submission.
The hearing panel will review both written and spoken submissions and make recommendations.
The final decision will be taken by the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board.
