Sital: Want to learn more about local boards? Let me show you the ropes.

Sital: There are 21 local boards across Tāmaki Makaurau and each has five to 11 elected members.

Sital: Think of local board members as grassroots government.

Sital: They make budget decisions and plans for your community and let you have your say on big local issues.

Sital: They run things such as parks, pools and libraries.

Sital: They also support community programmes, cultural and arts initiatives and events.

Sital: Local boards help preserve Auckland’s heritage and protect the environment.

Sital: And provide grants to local organisations.

Sital: Oh, not that type of Grant. Funding grants to help community groups to do more great things.

Sital: Local board meetings are held monthly to discuss public matters.

Sital: These meetings are where decisions are made and the public can present ideas and raise issues.
