This consultation closed on 11 June 2024. We proposed three options for an upgraded playground at Kimpton Park.

We received feedback from 22 people through our online survey.

Thank you for having your say.

Key feedback themes

Feedback shows:

  • a mix of ages use the playground
  • people who use wheelchairs and mobility aids cannot access the playground
  • people have safety concerns about illegal rubbish dumping and motorbikes in the park
  • people want more shade sails, lighting and rubbish bins
  • people also want:
    • play spaces
    • footpath connections
    • picnic spaces
    • flexible lawn, sport and 'kick-a-ball' spaces
  • swinging, climbing and sliding are the most popular play activities.

Changes based on your feedback

  • We chose Option 2 for the new playground design because it was the most popular of the three proposed options. It includes:
    • open spaces
    • a new play space
    • a 'kick-a-ball' space
    • a volleyball space
    • a car park.
  • We will build new pathways to make it easier for people to access the playground.
  • We will not install lighting at the playground. This will reduce gatherings at night and the risk of antisocial behaviour.
  • We will provide rubbish bins at the new playground.
  • The play space will include:
    • swings
    • a play module for climbing
    • a tunnel
    • a small slide
    • talking tubes
    • a space net
    • a 'dancing snake' balancing trail.

What happens next

We have removed the old playground to keep the area safe.

We are preparing to start building the new playground and expect it to open to the public in January 2026.
