The first round of consultation closed on 25 January 2024. Thank you for having your say.
We received about 256 pieces of feedback from:
an online forum
printed feedback forms submitted at Kumeū Library and council services
a drop-in session at the Huapai Food Truck Festival in January 2024.
Key feedback themes
Safety at the reserve
Most people who left feedback said they feel safe when they visit the reserve.
Some suggested ways to improve safety at the reserve, such as:
better lighting
safer entry from Tapu Road
a pedestrian path along the main driveway.
Activities at the reserve
The most popular activities at the reserve are:
walking
children's play
cycling
meeting friends and whānau
sports.
Changes to facilities at the reserve
Most of the feedback showed support for our proposed changes to:
parking
the reserve entrance
the location of the training field
the existing path network.
Play
Feedback showed a lot of support for a 'destination play' facility (large play space with specialised play activities) and a 'wheel play' facility (for skateboards and bikes).
The most popular play experiences for the new destination playground are:
sliding
climbing
hanging/flying
swinging.
The most popular play experience for the new wheel play facility is a flow and pump track (combined cycling pump track and skatepark).
Feedback also showed that the most popular theme for the new playground is the 'Urban Sports Bowl' theme.
What happens next
Rodney Local Board have adopted:
the site development plan
the play network redevelopment plan
the Huapai Recreation Reserve implementation plan.
During the 2024/2025 financial year we will:
develop concept designs for the destination playground and wheel play facility
present the concept designs to Rodney Local Board for feedback
ask for public feedback on the concept designs
deliver proposed car park works.
