We are proposing a new bike pump track for Glendowie Park in the Ōrākei Local Board area.
The track will provide young people with:
- more recreational opportunities
- a safe social space.
Why Glendowie Park
We identified Glendowie Park as the most suitable site because:
- it is a large, underused open space
- it has safe and connected pathways
- it is central to many other open spaces in the local board area.
Consultation Summary
Public consultation on the proposed Glendowie Park pump track closed on Friday 31 October 2025. Thank you to everyone who had their say.
We received 698 submissions, including seven submissions from organisations, through the online feedback form and written submissions.
Most feedback came from residents in the Ōrākei Local Board area (86 per cent).
Overall, 77 per cent of individuals and four of the seven organisations supported the proposal. Nineteen per cent of individuals opposed the proposal, and four per cent selected Other or I don’t know.
A full summary of the consultation feedback is available to download.
Proposed site
Following consultation, we have identified a proposed location within Glendowie Park and are currently carrying out geotechnical reporting at this site.
The proposed site:
- is outside the closed landfill extent
- retains a large area of open green space, which was a common request from residents
- has clear sightlines from the street, supporting passive surveillance and safety
- is located on relatively flat land
- is close to the road, nearby pathways and the local school, making it easy to access.

What happens next
We are currently completing geotechnical testing for the site. We will then develop a draft concept plan for the proposed pump track.
Once the draft concept plan is ready, we will carry out further consultation with the community.
This will include an on-site open day, where you can speak with the project team directly.
Feedback from the next stage of consultation will be reported to the Ōrākei Local Board before any final decision is made.
