What the project is about
We would like your views on the draft Auckland Golf Investment Plan.
This plan sets regional policy for council-owned or managed golf land. It also ensures that all Aucklanders benefit from publicly owned land.
There are currently 13 golf courses operating on 535 hectares of Auckland Council-owned or managed land.
Why we're proposing these changes
We're proposing an investment plan for golf because:
some Aucklanders are missing out on the benefits of golf
we need to meet a wider range of community needs
exclusive use of publicly owned land for golf is not sustainable
market forces are driving changes across the local golf sector.
About the Draft Auckland Golf Investment Plan
It aims to increase use of publicly owned golf land by as many Aucklanders as possible.
The draft plan has three key objectives:
increased equity, sport and recreation by opening up publicly owned golf land to all Aucklanders
increased equity and participation by providing a broad range of golf experiences that attract and retain participants and services targeted at low participation groups
best practice in ecosystem management and biodiversity conservation of publicly owned golf land.
We hope to deliver four key shifts:
increased accountability and transparency
increased equity and sport and recreation participation rates
increased equity and golf participation rates
increased natural and environmental benefits.
Under the draft Auckland Golf Investment Plan, as current leases expire, we will consider how golf land could deliver more public value.
What we want your feedback on
We want to hear from you so that we can make sure the draft plan meets the needs of our community.
Tell us if:
you support the overall plan, objectives and key shifts
let us know if there is anything we should include or change.
