About David Lange Park stage two

The David Lange Park playground was developed in collaboration with iwi and the community, supported by the Māngere-Ōtāhuhu Local Board.

The cultural narrative behind the playground is Te Riri o Mataaoho (The wrath of Mataaoho – guardian of earthquakes and volcanoes). It was gifted by mana whenua, Te Ākitai Waiohua and Te Āhiwaru Waiohua. The story highlights landscape features in the area, providing a part of Māori history to identify with and pass on to future generations.

In stage one, a children's play area with towers, slides, and a flying fox was built. The play equipment has areas for sensory, imaginative/creative, inclusive, and agility play, balance, coordination and teamwork with soft fall areas.

The playground also has a new toilet block.
