Consultation for the playground renewal at Colin Lawrie Fields (reserve) closed on 24 October 2024.

Thank you for having your say.

Before the public consultation, we worked with local sports clubs to develop a draft plan that included their goals and feedback for the playground renewal and relocation. Franklin Local Board supported this draft for a wider community consultation.

We received 117 responses to the public consultation after letter drops to 150 properties near to the reserve.

Key feedback themes

Feedback shows there was:

  • support for moving the play facilities, adding 'wheel play' elements and providing a single toilet block
  • strong interest in walking, jogging and exercising at the reserve
  • strong support for completing a continuous path around the reserve
  • mixed views on a possible new car park off Reynolds Road. Some neighbours raised

concerns about this while sports clubs showed strong support.

Overall, there was strong community support for the concept draft plan:

  • 50 per cent supported all priorities
  • 38 per cent supported most priorities
  • 88 per cent supported all or most priorities.

Changes made based on the feedback

Feedback from the community resulted in small changes to the draft plan.

The main change was to relocate the basketball court closer to the play space, so it is further away from nearby homes.

What happened next

The Franklin Local Board approved the draft plan in June 2025.

The plan supports the renewal of the playground. This renewal has funding and is progressing as part of the local board's current work programme.

The playground renewal will need more funding to develop other new features. The local board will consider this in a future work programme.
