What is the project

Auckland Council is working with communities to determine how best to support communities in adapting to ongoing climate disruption.

Climate change poses large challenges that we can only address by working together.

The Community and Social Policy team is leading a pilot project in Papakura to help develop climate adaptation projects.

Initial discussions are kicking off on September 20, 2024.

Why in Papakura

Papakura is exposed to future climate change hazards, especially flooding, due to its geography. The community have already developed a climate resilience plan and is ready for further conversations to:

  • consider its future
  • explore how we can work together to plan for the future
  • agree on how it will adapt to a changing taiao/environment.

How to share your thoughts

Please share your experiences of flooding in the areas where you live, work, and play in Papakura.

To have your say, you can:

  • share your ideas in our online Stories
  • participate in the Forum to discuss ideas with others in the engagement session
  • add a mark on the Map and write your comments

Next Steps

Taking sensible steps now to address climate disruption will help us achieve our shared goals for a better life for ourselves and our loved ones—like cleaner air, more green spaces, clean waterways, and safe streets where children can walk and ride bikes.
