Main feedback themes

Clevedon Village

The feedback shows there:

  • is strong and positive support for the village plan
  • is a need for more parking and larger play spaces
  • are concerns about traffic congestion and road safety
  • are concerns about road conditions and maintenance in the Wairoa area
  • are concerns about the overall project cost.

Clevedon Showgrounds

We received support for parts of the Clevedon Showgrounds plan.

Feedback from equestrian groups included:

  • concerns about the use and function of equestrian facilities
  • concerns about reduced access and limited potential for hosting national events
  • a preference for improved fencing
  • requests for better allocation of equestrian areas
  • concerns that future roads could affect national equestrian events.

Other issues identified in the feedback are:

  • the need for on-leash or off-leash dog areas
  • uncertainty around the need for an events centre
  • questions about the future of the markets
  • concerns about parking availability and drainage
  • requests for new toilets on the western side of the showgrounds.

Changes made based on the feedback

Clevedon Village

We have added a future carpark next to Clevedon District Centre in the updated concept plan.

Clevedon Showgrounds

The updated concept plan includes the following changes:

  • removal of the indoor tennis court to allow more parking
  • removal of the proposed events centre
  • maintenance of existing roads, parking areas, paths and the Pony Club.

We met with equestrian user groups on 3 July 2024 to discuss the concept plan. Based on the discussion, we have:

  • confirmed support for the southern road
  • improved the design of the southern arena and events area
  • identified areas for future parking and events
  • confirmed relocation of stables
  • prioritised improvements to fencing and gates at the main entrance.

What happens next

Franklin Local Board adopted the updated concept plan on 27 August 2024.
