The playground at Bayswater Park on Bayswater Avenue needs an upgrade.

As part of the 2025 Devonport-Takapuna Play Plan, we are planning to renew the playground and surrounding area to provide:

  • safe and accessible play equipment
  • a more modern and collaborative play experience.

From 7 October to 4 November 2025, we asked the community what they would like to see in the Bayswater Park playground renewal. We used this feedback to develop two possible concept plans. We now want to hear which concept option you prefer

Bayswater Park concept options

Option 1 focuses on one main play structure that stands out as a fun centrepiece for the park. The tall tower gives children lots of ways to climb, explore, and move at different heights, with a long enclosed slide as a highlight. Around the tower are spaces where children can watch, wait, or play together, making it a social place as well as an active one. The playful design and natural colours help it feel welcoming and imaginative, while clear sightlines make it easy for caregivers to supervise.
Option 2 spreads play equipment across the area rather than focusing on one big structure. This creates several smaller play spaces where children can choose how and where they want to play. The design includes a mix of physical play, sensory activities, and quieter areas, helping children of different ages and abilities feel comfortable and included. Easy access, ground‑level features, and interactive elements support a wider range of play styles, making the space flexible and welcoming for families who use the park in different ways.

What we want your feedback on

We want to know whether you prefer concept option 1 or concept option 2 [PDF 3.67MB].

We also want to know what you think of:

  • increasing play activities for our neuro-divergent communities (people with brains that work differently)
  • adding more fitness equipment to the park
  • the proposed concept designs.
