Background to the project
The existing Avondale Community Centre is in poor condition and parts of the building are closed. The library building is also coming to the end of its life. The current town square needs to be flexible to grow for bigger events, be a welcoming meeting point for locals, and to provide vibrancy to the main street. These opportunities provide a chance to build a new library and community hub in the heart of the town centre, to meet the needs of a growing and changing community.
Auckland Council and Panuku Development Auckland are enabling the urban regeneration of Avondale over the next 10 to 15 years. The regeneration programme will include an upgrade to the town square and a new library and community hub, alongside more homes, shops, eateries, and businesses in the heart of Avondale.
