Have your say on the new library and community hub for Avondale

Auckland Council and Panuku Development Auckland are enabling the urban regeneration of Avondale over the next 10 to 15 years. The regeneration programme will include an upgrade to the town square and a new library and community hub, alongside more homes, shops, eateries, and businesses in the heart of Avondale. Join the conversation online using our interactive map or review the design plans and provide your feedback below

Background to the project

The existing Avondale Community Centre is in poor condition and parts of the building are closed. The library building is also coming to the end of its life. The current town square needs to be flexible to grow for bigger events, be a welcoming meeting point for locals, and to provide vibrancy to the main street. These opportunities provide a chance to build a new library and community hub in the heart of the town centre, to meet the needs of a growing and changing community.

What we’ve done so far

We’ve had conversations with mana whenua, our stakeholders and the Avondale community over a number of years, and from these conversations we’ve created a draft design for the new Avondale library and community hub that covers four themes: Community connection, creative uses, learning and development, and community services

Now, we want your feedback on this design so we can ensure that it provides for Avondale’s diverse and growing community.

What we want your feedback on

  • what you like about the design plans
  • how you and your whānau will use the building and outdoor spaces
  • if there was one thing you could change, what it would be

How you can get involved

  • Come along to one of our drop-in sessions on:
    • 7 May, 3pm to 5pm, Avondale Library
    • 9 May, 10am to 2pm, Avondale Town Square
    • 11 May, 10am to 12pm, Avondale Library
    • 15 May, 10am to 2pm, Avondale Town Square
  • Provide feedback by from 21 April to 17 May 2021 by joining the conversation online using our interactive map or review the design plans and provide your feedback below

Next Steps

After the consultation closes, we will review your feedback and refine the design. The revised design and feedback will then be considered for approval by the Whau Local Board.
