Water
What we are planning for Auckland's water in the Annual Plan 2025/2026.
Watercare is responsible for water supply and wastewater in Auckland, while Auckland Council is responsible for stormwater.
Through the government’s water reform programme, Local Water Done Well, Watercare can now invest more in water infrastructure while keeping water affordable for Aucklanders.
In the 2025/2026 financial year, we plan to:
- continue work funded by the Water Quality Targeted Rate, including completing the stormwater separation work along Lower Khyber Pass to improve water quality in the area
- renew and upgrade important assets like the East Tāmaki dam and Paremuka dam culverts
- progress the Making Space for Water programme (MSFW) to help reduce, avoid and raise awareness of flood risks
- continue building the Central Interceptor wastewater tunnel, with the service expected to begin in 2026/2027
- construct the midtown wastewater upgrade.
