Transport

What we are planning for transport in the Annual Plan 2025/2026.

Our transport investments will focus on renewing and maintaining our networks, while fixing roads and improving public transport.

In the 2025/2026 financial year, we plan to:

  • support development of the 30-year Auckland Integrated Transport Plan. This will provide Aucklanders with better access to public transport and a better-connected, more efficient transport system
  • make progress on the Eastern Busway between Pakuranga and Botany including the Rā Hihi (flyover) above Reeves Road and across Tī Rākau Drive
  • support the opening of City Rail Link in 2026. This includes:
    • buying more electric multiple unit (EMU) trains
    • removing level crossings to reduce traffic congestion
    • working with KiwiRail and Auckland One Rail to manage disruptions from rail network closures
  • install driver safety screens on approximately 1100 buses across Auckland by 2026
  • deliver projects planned in Auckland Transport’s Statement of Intent, to:
    • repair, upgrade or replace existing assets like train stations and bus stops
    • repair 95 per cent of potholes on major roads within 24 hours of receiving notification
    • decarbonise ferries (reduce or completely eliminate carbon emissions from ferry operations)
    • introduce a road safety programme.
